Frequently Asked Questions1. Why should I wear a weighted breast form or a breast form at all? Not wearing a breast form can interfere with correct balance and posture and eventually cause spinal curvature. You also need a weighted breast form versus a non-weighted one to keep your bra from riding up.
2. How often does insurance cover a new breast prosthesis and bra? Medicare will cover one breast prosthesis every other year and up to 6 bras per year. Other insurance carriers vary. We may need to call your specific insurance carrier in order to determine your benefits. It is important to replace your bra every 3 months since a bra loses its elasticity around this time. A properly fitted bra is imperative to the correct fitting of a breast form. Most insurance carriers will cover 6 or more bras per year. The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 ensures the coverage of these items. This federal law states that if you have a mastectomy due to cancer and your group plan chooses to cover mastectomies, insurance coverage must be provided for:
- Reconstruction of the breast on which the mastectomy has been performed
- Surgery and reconstruction of the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance
- Prostheses
- Treatment for physical complications of the mastectomy, including lymphedema
3. What should I bring? A prescription from you doctor, your insurance card, and a form-fitting blouse. You may also bring someone with you!
4. Do you offer privacy in which I can try things on, including headwear? Absolutely! We have private fitting rooms available and will be glad to assist you.
5. Do you offer seamstress services? Yes, we do! If no measurements are necessary, we will ask that you leave your garment with us. Our seamstress will give you a price and a date it will be ready for pick up. If measurements are needed, we may need to schedule a time with our seamstress in order to achieve a good fit. | |
